The Question

I saw the 50s
I made age 10.
Parents were proud
And I of them.
Dad didn’t ask questions
Of little me.

I survived the 60s
I grew to 20.
Parents were confused
Hippys did that then.
Dad wondered inside
What would I be.

I worked the 70s
Married and in debt.
I’m a parent
Hope he’s proud of me.
Dad asked first time
When I would grow up.

I lived the 80s
Making life’s decisions.
No time for me
Family comes first.
Tho Dad still asked
When I would grow up.

I feared the 90s
Children have gone.
I’m a grandparent
Are they proud of me?
Dad has long passed
Should I grow up?

I made 2000
New beginning and end.
I miss Dad
I still have Mom.
I bet Dad still asks
When I will grow up.

Now it’s today
I appreciate each one.
No one knows
How many are left.
Time for reflection
Of who I became.

I have had years
50 and more.
To ponder his question
He so often asked.
So here is my answer
“When I join you, Dad.”
