At the Game

The fans were there.
There was excitement too.
Everyone waited.
We held their breath till we were blue.
The gym was small.
The walls too near.
It felt like a party.
We are all one big family here.
The buzzer sounded.
Players took the court.
The officials were ready.
Anticipation so high we thought we would float.
The ball was tossed.
Smacked down the floor.
The players all chased.
As it bounced high toward the door.
Captured by blue.
Bounced on the floor.
The sound echoed.
Above the noise and crowd roar.
Mistakes were plenty.
They embarrassed a few.
Coaches were patient.
Though quite young all the players knew.
The shots were many.
The goals few.
The fans had fun.
The tired players kept chasing that ball too.
Owned now by green.
That ball again bounced.
Back down the floor.
Roles now reversed the players gave chase.
The Hoopsters whooped.
The Comets streaked.
The game continued.
At a fast and furious pace.
We all laughed.
Then we groaned.
Clapped our hands.
We yelled encouragement to the players a lot.
Comets streaked ahead.
Hoopsters caught up.
Both teams had scored.
Our racing hearts had no time to slow down.
Timeout was called.
Strategy coach.
Which players to use.
We all guessed then questioned his choice.
Now Hoopsters ahead.
Comets fight back.
Score all tied.
Too much excitement for anyone to sit back.
Ahead by two.
Hoopsters held on.
Comets attacked.
In vain the Comets fought and the Hoopsters won.
