I
confront some newfound path,
Looking far as eyes can see.
Where it goes I cannot tell,
Where ever it takes me.
I
walk along on padded leaves,
Wandering oft’ to explore.
With blistered foot and briared leg,
Sights too wondrous to ignore.
I
watch the sun rest on a hill,
Waving colors before dark’s curtain.
No time for rest or needed drink,
My path now is uncertain.
I
see a way no one should pass,
Evil in all does tempt.
Hard lessons learned and prices paid,
Even I am not exempt.
I
pause before a splitting path,
Pondering which to be taken.
One choice only I am given,
No going back I am shaken.
I
know this path I walk alone,
Fearing no one from behind.
At its end I’ll see many,
We must meet there I find.
